Wedding Trends We’re Loving
As marriage celebrants, we are so lucky to witness so many beautiful weddings. And every year, we see couples rewriting the rules, bringing new ideas that pave the way for wedding trends.
Of course, there are legal elements that must always be included (we’ve got those covered!). But beyond that, we work with so many couples who bring incredible creativity to their ceremony - from personal vows and rituals to music, readings, and guest involvement.
It’s these thoughtful, and often fun, details that turn a ceremony into something more.
So what’s trending this year? Here are the wedding trends we’re absolutely loving - the ones that have made for truly personal ceremonies and unforgettable weddings.
Private Signing
While signing the Official Marriage Certificates is a legal must-do, more and more couples are choosing to make this a private moment. Instead of signing in front of their guests during the wedding ceremony, couples are stepping aside after the ceremony for a quiet, intimate signing with just their witnesses and celebrant.
It’s a beautiful pause. A chance to breathe, soak it all in, and share a quiet moment before the party kicks off.
We love this trend, and it’s such a lovely way to honour the moment you officially become married, without the spotlight.
Surprise Witnesses or Ring Bearers
Instead of pre-selecting your witnesses or ring bearer/s, some couples are choosing to surprise their guests during the ceremony. We’ve seen this done by tucking a note or token under random chairs or drawing names from a bowl mid-ceremony to reveal who’ll sign the marriage certificate as your witness or carry the rings.
We’ve seen guests light up with joy (and shock!) when they’re chosen on the spot. It’s playful and makes for a such a memorable moment.
This trend is perfect for couples who want to involve your guests, but keep things lighthearted and spontaneous.
Weekend long celebrations
Multi-day events are well and truly in. And honestly, why limit the fun to one day? Couples are planning multiple events around their wedding ceremony, turning the whole experience into a weekend (or days) of fun and quality time with their guests.
Think: welcome drinks, dinners, guest breakfast dates, recovery barbeques, pool parties and more.
These extra events give couples more time with their loved ones, and extend the celebrations beyond the wedding day itself.
Candid coverage
Alongside traditional photographers and videographers, couples are now hiring content creators to capture the real, behind-the-scenes moments. These creators work quietly in the background to document your day in a way thats raw - unpolished and unposed.
It’s relaxed, authentic, and gives couples a beautiful mix of memories to look back on (and share!).
We love this trend because it adds a whole new layer to your wedding memories - capturing all the little moments you didn’t even realise were happening.
Personalised Styling
Couples are getting personal with their wedding details - and we’re loving it. From handwritten, custom signage to homemade favours and ceremony styling, DIY and personalisation is everywhere. And we’ve realised, it’s not about perfection - it’s about personality.
Our favourites include handpainted signage, handdrawn place cards, letters for each guest, photo displays and custom drinks coolers.
Considering personalised elements for your wedding day makes every detail feel intentional and unique to you.
So,
While trends are fun, inspiring, and ever-evolving, the most beautiful weddings are the ones that feel authentic to you as the couple.
So take what you love, leave what you don’t, and remember: your wedding is about you and your person.
And if you need someone to bring your ceremony vision to life - we’ll be right here, ready create a day that feels right for you. 🤍
